SP U33C 8599 sits in the Diesel Shop at West Oakland on October 1, 1983. 8599 was rebuilt by SP and GE in 1981 as a last ditch attempt to deal with the over 200 U33C's on the SP's roster, many of which had been leased to Mexico or fallen apart in heavy SP service. Unfortuneately, the 8599 didn't blaze a trail to rebuild the remainder of the fleet.
