SP SD39's 5316 and 5298 rest between shifts as the ICTF Switcher at Dolores Yard. These were the last two SD39's running on the former SP. Amazingly, UP assigned numbers 2850-2851 to these units, though the odds of these units seeing Armour Yellow were slim.
A solid set of DRGW power brings a transfer run from Dolores to West Colton. Three SD45's (5326, 5320, and 5324) are joined by GP30 3024. Seen here at Pepper Ave., West Colton, on January 29, 1994.
The WCWSM on March 21, 1993 whisks past the Metrolink platform at Moorpark with B40-8 8002 with DRGW GP40-2 3051, SP SD45T-2 9333, and GP38-2's 4820 and 4831.
A 77 car ECGUU El Centro - Guadalupe sugar beet train blasts up the grade out of Glendale. SSW6887-7534-SSW6889-8525 lead the classic wood sided beet gons on June 30, 1991.
The beet train passes Gemco, CA on the Coast Line between Burbank and Chatsworth. 77 classic beet gons are being motored by 4 large SP engines. June 30, 1991.
Late winter sun on December 4, 1993 shines on an eastbound leaving Dolores with 8240-9761-9631-8566-8018.
Whoa! Where are we? Amazingly, the answer is Compton, CA! Wisconsin Central FP45 6652 is in the lead of the hottest train on the SP, the BSMFF on this bright January 5, 1997. Of course, the wig-wag and the tracks are long gone, replaced by the Alameda Corridor.
The BSMFF arrives in Dolores, CA with Wisconsin Central FP45 6652 leading WC SD45 6591 and SP 9741 and 8037 leading 4 sets of spine cars. Of course, the FP45 has picked up some debris coming down the line on this bright January 5, 1997.
Wisconsin Central FP45 6652 enters Dolores Yard with the BSMFF on January 5, 1997. What a great paint job on a great engine.
Eastbound SP coal train climbs out of Flat, CO with engines 340 and 157 on the point and another AC (369) shoving on the rear end. November 13, 1996.
SP 340 and 157 pull an eastbound coal train through Byers Canyon west of Denver, CO. Train is only making 10MPH in this part of the canyon as it approaches a track gang. November 13, 1996.
Another view of X340E in Byers Canyon. November 13, 1996.
SP 251 with 2 AC4400CW's on the point, 2 more pushing 65 cars back and 1 more pushing the rear another 35 cars back is about to pop into the west portal of Moffat Tunnel at Winter Park, CO. November 13, 1996.
SP 231 leads a southbound coal train on the Joint Line at Palmer Lake, CO. Palmer Lake is the summit of the Joint Line between Denver and Colorado Springs and is also the end of double track from Denver. November 12, 1996.
Broadside of SP SD45R 7525 as it waits for a signal at Los Nietos to cross the Santa Fe and continue up to the UP connection at Bartolo. September 12, 1996.
August 31, 1996 finds Wisconsin Central SD45 6624 leading SP SD40T-2 8297 under the high-wide detector in Glendale, CA on its way into downtown Los Angeles. In 1996 and 1997 several Wisconsin Central engines were on the SP, making up horsepower-hours owed by the WC for SP used in Wisconsin.
DRGW GP40 3092 is assigned to the ICTF switcher on this bright, sunny August 24, 1996 along with SD39 5316.
First ARKTC coal train to arrive Los Angeles with SP AC4400CW's. Units 199-191-200 bring this train into Dolores Yard on its way to Kaiser Bulk Terminal. July 5, 1996.
Roster shot of SP199 at Dolores, CA. July 5, 1996.
Two SP GP40-2's (7246 and SSW7260) are assigned to a promotional move for Swift Roadrailers. The train is stopped on the mainline of the Walker Line at Walker Siding for a photo shoot. Roadrailers are similar to convential 53' highway trailers, but have been reinforced to have a set of railroad wheels attached under the trailer. Because of their limited strength, they are not mixed with regular railroad equipment. June 18, 1996.
CSX SD50 8562 is pretty far from home; there are not these types of mountains back in the southeast, especially with desert in the foreground. On this clear January 29, 1996, CSX 8562 leads SP 8361, 8619, and 8298 and IC 6016 with 115 platforms of stack cars without any helpers as they roar through Cabazon, CA.
DRGW SD45's 5325-5340-5320 blast a 112 car WCGUM through Glendale, CA on Sunday, June 25, 1995.
An SP PTPCX lead by 8661-7522-6824-8588 charges through the dragging equipment detector just north of the Glendale, CA depot. Great lighting. February 19, 1995.
A J Yard Hauler backs down Alameda Street towards a cut of cars to take back to West Colton. The eight units are a mix of early-nineties SP power in the Los Angeles area: SD38-2 2972, SD9's 4403, 4335, and 4339, SD7's 1534 and 1509, SD39 5302, and GP9E 3367. March 17, 1990.

By midnight, this train will be at Guadalupe and have switched out the cars to the interchange with the Santa Maria Valley Railway.
April 27, 1991 finds the K Yard train (WCKYM) switching the J Yard south of downtown LA. In a few moments, the throb of 4 SD9's and a SD39 will pass on its way to the final destination of the K Yard. Power this day is 4374-4306-4345-4432-5316.
