Third Street street running! The Sunday before Christmas, 1988, a 2XOAST (2nd Extra Oakland-Stockton) is near the end of the street running through downtown Oakland. Brand new C40-8's 9139-9204-9184-9233 have a string of empty autos in tow on December 18, 1988.

UP SW10 1243 sits at the Union Pacific's Oakland Yard on December 16, 1983. Amazingly, this engine is still part of UP's roster. It is now numbered 96 and is part of the UP Heritage fleet at Cheyenne, WY.
The westbound steel train for Pittsburg rolls into Stockton with former Western Pacific GP35's 792 and 786. The power will run around the train at Stockton for the continuation of its trip on the Santa Fe over to Pittsburg and the isolated section of former Sacramento Northern trackage that services the US Steel plant there. October 14, 1984.
The L751 local rolls west through Hearst, CA west of Livermore on its way to Fremont and Oakland. Power is former Western Pacific GP35's 792 and 789 with WP GP9 731 in between on Labor Day, September 3, 1984.
An XOT, the engines and caboose from the WPV, roll across the high span bridge at the west end of Altamont Pass on September 3, 1984. Power is C30-7 2460, SD40-2 3649, and DDA40X 6910. This is probably one of the few times that a WP caboose came in direct contact with a DDA40X.
UP GP30 830 sits in Oakland, CA at the former Western Pacific Yard. July 7, 1983.
DDA40X 6936 of course has become famous as the remaining operational example that the UP has. It is also famous as the first DDA40X to come through the Feather River Canyon when some were reactivated in 1984. Seen here on the return trip at Virgilia in the heart of the Feather on March 4, 1984.
A few miles up the Canyon, 6936 with 5 SD40-2's and a C30-7 rounds a curve at the east end of Paxton siding. March 4, 1984. Check out the UP DDA40X Page for more photos.
6936 rolls east across Clio Trestle. March 4, 1984.
On the morning of April 15th, 2004, a westbound auto train rolls through Berkeley with 4322-HLCX9008-4890.
