UP DDA40X Photos

At the end of the line (literally and figurally) is DDA40X 6909, sitting dead at Yermo, CA waiting for a chance to run again on August 26, 1982. When the call came in 1984, 6909 was not selected to be returned to service. Date:

DDA40X 6936 of course has become famous as the remaining operational example that the UP has. It is also famous as the first DDA40X to come through the Feather River Canyon when some were reactivated in 1984. Seen here on the return trip at Virgilia in the heart of the Feather on March 4, 1984. Date:

Aargh! Sometimes you aren't in the right spot. Southern California has long been known for great motive power lashups. May 13, 1984 (yes, this is the third train with a Jack that day!) finds UP U30C's 2831 and 2841 bracketing Jack 6912 as they pop out from under the I-10 overpass at the Colton Diamonds. Date:

Roaring easbound on the North Track at Summit, 6917 leads 3242-3707-SP9257-3130 and 54 cars on an eastbound in the early morning of August 17, 1984. Date:

An XOT, the engines and caboose from the WPV, roll across the high span bridge at the west end of Altamont Pass on September 3, 1984. Power is C30-7 2460, SD40-2 3649, and DDA40X 6910. This is probably one of the few times that a WP caboose came in direct contact with a DDA40X. Date:
