California State Railway Museum Photos

These photos were taken on April 6, 1986, shortly after the Santa Fe Railway donated its collection of diesels and steam engines that had been stored at their roundhouse at Albuquerque, NM. In addition to the diesel engines shown here, Santa Fe 4-8-4 2925 and 2-10-4 5021 were also part of the donation. However, shots of them were hard to get because of the awkward placement of the engines

Since collection arrived at Sacramento, only the F-units (347C and 347B) have been comestically improved; all of the others have been sitting in the old SP Sacramento backshops. In the past couple of years, parts of the collection have been traded or donated to other museums, with the Alco S2 2381 going to Campo, CA and Motor Car M-190 returning to Albuquerque.

Another shot of Santa Fe FM H-12-44TS 543 at the CSRM, Sacramento, CA. The H-12-44TS was a unique model built for the Santa Fe; basically a H-12-44 switcher on a long frame, the high short hood held a steam generator to provide steam heat for Santa Fe passenger trains as they were switched in Chicago. The Santa Fe had three examples of the H-12-44TS and the 543 is the only survivor. Date:
