An XOT, the engines and caboose from the WPV, roll across the high span bridge at the west end of Altamont Pass on September 3, 1984. Power is C30-7 2460, SD40-2 3649, and DDA40X 6910. This is probably one of the few times that a WP caboose came in direct contact with a DDA40X. Date:

Aargh! Sometimes you aren't in the right spot. Southern California has long been known for great motive power lashups. May 13, 1984 (yes, this is the third train with a Jack that day!) finds UP U30C's 2831 and 2841 bracketing Jack 6912 as they pop out from under the I-10 overpass at the Colton Diamonds. Date:

DDA40X 6936 of course has become famous as the remaining operational example that the UP has. It is also famous as the first DDA40X to come through the Feather River Canyon when some were reactivated in 1984.
